Journey to law

Jessica studied Law at the University of Sussex and stayed on in Brighton to complete her Master’s in International Human Rights Law.

Jessica’s love of law was born from a desire to help others and having a profound interest in understanding different points of view.

Whilst studying her Master’s degree, Jessica worked with an international minority rights charity on a research project on indigenous rights and the carbon trading market. She also volunteered her time with a refugee charity, teaching one-to-one English language classes throughout the pandemic.

Jessica’s first experience in employment law was working in Employment Tribunal litigation in a Claimant law firm. She joined Jones Chase due to the variety of work the team are involved with and the dynamic and friendly working environment.

@Dean you’ve got two superstars on your team.

Thanks again.

The decision to study law was an easy one. I wanted to work in an intellectually stimulating arena where I could help people facing challenging, and often very stressful, situations.

Employment law pervades almost every aspect of an individual’s life and I believe a happy working environment is fundamental to wider wellbeing. I enjoy learning about different fields of work and finding creative legal solutions based on each client’s specific professional and personal needs. I love that every case requires tailored advice and unique strategy.

I chose to work for Jones Chase because I wanted to work in a team of lawyers that truly care about the clients and colleagues they work with. What struck me about my colleagues in my initial interviews was their genuine love for the job and great working relationships with each other. More fundamentally, I am at the start of my legal career and have the opportunity in this role to learn from passionate, expert lawyers at a firm that cares about my wellbeing.
Jones Chase was built on the principle of doing the right thing and looking after others, from the inside out. This ethos has cultivated a positive working environment and the consistent provision of high-quality work.
I love to solve a problem, particularly ones that seem impossible to begin with. It is rewarding to be part of that problem-solving process, helping the client get the best possible outcome whilst furthering my own learning and development.
