Journey to law

Shortly after completing her law degree, Roberta volunteered at her local Citizens Advice Bureau where she completed the Generalist Advice Course which allowed her to provide general advice on various legal matters. Roberta particularly enjoyed advising on immigration and nationality and employment matters.

Roberta completed the LPC at The University of Law. While studying the LPC Roberta was a student advisor at the University’s Legal Advice Centre assisting clients on a pro bono basis.  Following the completion of the LPC, Roberta started working as a paralegal at Ganguin Samartin, a leading niche immigration law firm based in the City of London.  Roberta assists the firm’s solicitors with all legal matters relating to business/corporate and private immigration and nationality matters.

Roberta is currently working towards qualification as a solicitor (via the SRA’s Equivalent Means Period of Recognised Training route) at Ganguin Samartin having already completed seats in immigration and European Union law. Roberta is now joining Jones Chase on a six-month secondment to complete her final seat before qualification.  Roberta will return to Ganguin Samartin in March 2019.

The belief that everyone should have a voice and equal access to justice regardless of their socio-economic background. Practising law allows me to have an active role in making this belief a reality.

Before joining Jones Chase, I had met Dean and the team at previous networking events which gave me a feel for the firm.  I had the opportunity to learn about the interesting work they do and how engaging and friendly the team is. It was this combination which convinced me that Jones Chase was the perfect firm in which to complete my secondment before qualifying as a solicitor.

The 100% success rate – the team only practices in employment law which is a practice area they are all very passionate about and this makes all the difference as it allows them to achieve excellence.

The combination of contentious and non-contentious work – no day is the same. The opportunity to have a positive impact in someone’s life is very rewarding.  The incredibly supportive and animated JC team which genuinely cares about people and achieving the best possible outcome for each client.
